We talk about our first productivity challenge, which is enacting the first chapter of a productivity book. John starts with his book choice, “Tiny Habits“, by BJ Fogg. He digs deep into Chapter 1 and details the items mentioned in the first chapter, and discusses what he’s put into action. Part of it is training to be prompted. John first enacts Chapter 1 by modifying one of his snacking habits. Then he also uses the tactics in a way related to his DietBet. It’s not just about “what do you want to do”, but also what do you NOT want to do”.
Mike takes on Chapter 1 of “The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck“, by Mark Manson. He goes into depth on how the author wants to limit what we care about. We currently worry about so many things that we fall into a “feedback loop from Hell”, according to the author. Additionally, we seem to always want “more”, that we pursue “more”. And Mike talks about the author’s explanation of the “Backwards Law”: the more you pursue feeling better, the less satisfied you become. Effectively, what he drives at in Chapter 1 is, give zero ‘effs’ about the things that aren’t important.
We collectively decided to continue reading and digging deeper into these books. And then seeing how activating what these books direct us to do actually works in our lives.
